Hello friends,
We see in the news so many stories about hardship and abuse of immigrants and refugees and those seeking asylum in our country. It’s often difficult to know how we can help.
A small group in our congregation has been meeting and having some conversations about ways in which we can help and have an impact on the situations of people in our valley and area.
You already share generously in our support of the Galilee Center, homeless shelters, and our holiday giving. And many of you have started volunteering in person at the Galilee Center.
And we want to explore ways our congregation and its members can help in more ways, especially with people experiencing struggles with our immigration and asylum systems.
We’d like to invite you to join us at 5:30pm on Wednesday, August 23, on Zoom for a conversation about how our congregation might be interested and able to engage with immigration justice and the needs of refugees and asylum seekers in our area. We’ll talk about possible partners and about the congregation’s possible level of commitment. Bring your ideas and your open minds.
The link will be in the newsletter and on the church calendar. If you have any questions ahead of time, please reach out to me (minister@uucod.org) or Denise Jansen Eager (socialjustice@uucod.org).
In peace and love
Rev. Ian
