Food Basket and Toy Drive for the Migrant Education Program Christmas Party

Find out how you can participate in one of our most loved gift drives of the year!

Each year the Migrant Education Program of the Coachella Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) holds a Christmas Party for their students and families. This year’s party is on December 14.  At the party, each student receives a gift and each family receives a food basket. 

Currently, there are 1230 migrant children & youth in kindergarten through grade 12 within CVUSD.  You can help our neighboring migrant families living in the East Valley have a more joyful Christmas by donating to our Toy and Food Drives.

If you think this is a great cause and If at the moment you have more time than money to donate, please volunteer.  Details of volunteer opportunities will be posted here soon.

Toy Drive

Instead of purchasing toys and bringing them to UUCOD, we will collect donations electronically.  Donations will be converted into RaiseRight e-gift cards. which will be sent to the Migrant Education Program.   They will shop for the toys which will be gifted at the Christmas Party.

 

Food Basket Drive

This offers us the greatest buying power.  We will buy the food in bulk from Smart & Final. which offers us some discounts.  Your donation of  $70 buys one food basket of 22 items.

Choose this option only if you can commit to filling a box with all 22 items.  Follow these step to participate:

1.  Click on the “FOOD DRIVE DONATIONS BUTTON ” to register your donation.

2.  Purchase a Lowe’s small packing box (16”w x 12”h x 12’d)  for  $1.38.  We all need to use the same size box for consistency and to maximize space in our transport truck.

3.  Assemble these unexpired food items only in these sizes.  You can add an item each day or all at once.

      • November 6 – Box of Cereal  (12 oz)
      • November 7 – Peanut Butter  (18 oz)
      • November 8 – Cooking Oils (corn, canola, vegetable)  (48 oz)
      • November 9 – Flour (corn or regular flour) (5 lbs)
      • November 10 – Macaroni & Cheese  (7.25 oz)
      • November 11 – Canned Fruit  (14.5 oz)
      • November 12 – Canned Tomato Sauce/Paste (15 oz)
      • November 13 – Canned Tuna (5 oz)
      • November 14 – Dessert Mix (ex: brownie mixes & already-made pudding or fruit cups)
      • November 15 – Jar of Applesauce  (23 oz)
      • November 16 – Canned Sweet Potatoes  (29 oz)
      • November 17 – Dried Herbs/Spices (cinnamon, oregano, bay leaves, salt)
      • November 18 – Bag of Beans (beans, lentils)  (16 oz)
      • November 19 – Box of Crackers  (12 oz)
      • November 20 – Package of Rice  (16 oz)
      • November 21 – Box of Oatmeal  (16 oz)
      • November 22 – Package Pasta  (16 oz)
      • November 23 – Spaghetti Sauce  (24 oz)
      • November 24 – Chicken Noodle Soup  (14.5 oz)
      • November 25 – Canned/Powdered Milk (powdered preferred)  (25.6 oz)
      • November 26 – Canned Corn  (14.5 oz)
      • November 27 – Canned Mixed Vegetables  (14.5 oz)
      • November 28 – Canned Carrots  (14.5 oz)
      • November 29 – Canned Green Beans  (14.5 oz)
      • November 30 – Canned Chiles (jalapeños in vinegar sauce)  (4 oz)
    • 3.   Bring your box filled with all 22  items to UUCOD on December 9,  between 1 – 3 pm.
