October Message
This month we begin our exploration of the values that unite and inspire us as Unitarian Universalists. A reminder that individuals and congregations across the Unitarian Universalist Association are exploring these values in preparation for deciding on adopting new language in our UUA bylaws that express our shared values and covenants with each other. We’ll be sharing conversation and reflection together, including in our Chalice Circles each month.
For October, we’ll be looking at Interdependence.
Interdependence
We honor the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
With humility and reverence, we covenant to protect Earth and all beings from exploitation, creating and nurturing sustainable relationships of repair, mutuality, and justice.
This month in worship, I’ll be guiding us to think about the ways we are woven together with each other and all of life. We’ll be celebrating our coming back together for a new church year as we mingle waters of our experience. And we’ll be remembering the ways in which the lives of our ancestors are knitted into our own experiences of love, justice, and community.
We celebrate our wider interweaving by welcoming back Rabbi Jules King to our pulpit and welcoming Jackie Conley who will reflect with us on the call to be peacemakers in our interdependent world.
Lion’s Roar magazine reminds us that “Interdependence is the nature of reality. It is the nature of human life.” And that we are all linked and each thing we do affects all around us, even though we may not see it. What are the pieces of your life that remind you that you are part of something larger than yourself? Where might you see the connections and interconnections more clearly? What are the promises and responsibilities you feel to that interdependence?
I hope you’ll join in the exploration.
in peace and love
Rev. Ian
