Share the Plate – CSUSB Nursing Street Medicine

October’s Share the Plate  will support the CSUSB Palm Desert Street Nursing Program. The nurse clinics travel to shelters, free food program locations, homeless encampments and to cooling/warming centers in the Coachella Valley.

The clinics improve the well-being of people by providing preventive services, treating chronic diseases/medication management, making referrals for follow-up care, offering foot soaks, and distributing personal need items. With access to the nurse clinics, the program aims to decrease emergency room visits and lessen the impact on acute care facilities.  They deliver a valuable service at no cost to those most economically in need of basic necessities. They also increase the number of registered nurses in the valley who have experience engaging vulnerable populations.
