Hello Friends,
And the wheel of the year turns and December becomes January and a new year begins. In some ways it’s an arbitrary shift—a flip of a page in a calendar. But so many of us see this shift as an opportunity to imagine new possibilities in the year ahead.
Dear ones, in many ways, the life of the congregation continues: we worship together, we learn together, we raise the money we need to help our beloved community thrive, we grapple with the painful realities of the world and how we can understand and make change, and we engage in the work of moving ourselves and the world toward justice, kindness, and love.
And yet we start this new year in a way that this congregation has not done for a while. You and I are committed to each other, covenanted together, in a new relationship: a congregation and its called, settled minister, crafting a share ministry together. We will continue to learn about and nurture each other.
This congregation’s mission is to be a sanctuary for diversity, spiritual growth and social justice. This has been our mission for several years now. And it has helped guide your exploration and your work together with your ministers.
It feels to me like the first year of our new shared ministry is a wonderful opportunity for us to explore together what our vision for our beloved community should be for the coming years—to imagine together who we want to be—and to craft a new mission, together.
Over the next months we’ll be engaged in this process. Especially following the completion of our pledge drive in March, we’ll begin conversations, workshops, and collective explorations that will help us together craft a new way of sharing our vision and mission for our beloved community.
I hope that you’ll start imagining and envisioning now and get ready to bring those imaginings together as we explore our future together.
in peace and love
Rev. Ian
