As preacher and pastor I am called to love a congregation into larger life. I love creating a spiritual experience in worship. I love preaching and telling stories that open hearts and minds, for we are all called to develop our capacity to build love and justice. At my best as a pastor, I am one who holds the space and listens closely to what matters to you with unconditional regard. We do that by sharing ministry.
We will be talking a lot about shared ministry. It is not a mystery. It is a spiritual practice that we are invited to live every day. What makes the work of this congregation different from any other place of business? It is treating our self and each other with great respect for each of us has worth and dignity. UUCOD is a place where we practice living our values in our spiritual home, as we make those values visible in the larger community.
Everything we do can be ministry. Ministry can take place in every encounter. It depends on how we do the work we do. For me, when we strive to treat each other with respect in every congregational or life encounter, we practice the values we proclaim. Sometimes we fail. Sometimes we apologize. I know from my own experience that I often fail, and yet, I persist in these practices with kindness to self and others. I am so glad to share ministry with you at UUCOD.
