April 6, 2025: From Whence Cometh My Help: Seeking Depth and Grounding
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
Worship Associate: Julia Alberg-Burbank
Where do we turn when we need help in difficult times? We turn to community. We turn to institutions and relationships. And we can turn to our spiritual practices, which often includes returning to texts that ground and inspire and console us. Texts like the Psalms or the Tao te Ching. Texts like favorite poetry or songs. How can those texts help us in our struggles?
March 30, 2025: Fear is the Mind Killer: The Bene Gesserit way of Allyship
Guest Speaker: Chrisanne Blankenship
Worship Associate: Ginger Hemingway
Our guest speaker, Chrisanne Blankenship-Billings shares: We find truth in all kinds of places and from all kinds of people. In the 1970s I was introduced to the Dune universe and found resonance in so much of this fictional place I have returned to its many incarnations for the last 35 years to plumb the depth of its truth. The Litany Against Fear is my Jesus Prayer, an almost subconscious repetition of calm in a world of anything but.
March 23, 2025: Here in This Place: Finding Home in the Desert
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
Worship Associate: Steven Toporoff
As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in our beautiful building we welcome new members to our beloved community as our memories of the past inspire our future.
March 16, 2025: Each One Teach One: Learning Skill in Community
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
Worship Associate: Julia Alberg-Burbank
How do we learn the skills we need to thrive in society? How do we build our abilities in new areas and ways of being to respond to the needs of the world. Perhaps we can find inspiration and challenge from the crafting community.
March 9, 2025: Reducing your Ecological Footprint
Guest Speaker: Karen Isebrands-Brown
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
UUCOD has an honorably small ecological footprint…. thanks to the efforts of the congregation. It is critical that we not underestimate the importance of each of our own personal/household ecological footprints. Today we will “drill down” to identify what each of us can do to reduce our own impact on the environment. Some approaches are obvious…….others are not so obvious.
March 2, 2025: And What is Truth? Intentionality and Awareness
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
Worship Associate: Walter Gendell
We are bombarded by so much information—and much of it is designed to baffle and confuse us. Why is the truth important and how can we figure out what’s what?
February 23, 2025: Cafés and Kitchens: How Do You Talk about Your Faith?
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
Worship Associate: Mel Wilkinson
How to you talk to your family, friends, and neighbors about Unitarian Universalism? How to do you share your values and your faith in your daily life? Join us as we ponder small connections and power sharing.
February 16, 2025: All Creatures Great and Small: Blessing the Animals
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
Worship Associate: Joni Padduck
For so many of us, the non-human animals in our lives bring companionship, love, trust, and healing. Join us on this special Sunday as we gather outside on our patio for a service of gratitude, celebration, and blessing of our animal companions. All well-behaved pets are welcome on a leash or in a crate. If you can’t bring your critter, bring a picture. Keep your eye on the weekly newsletter for more information.
February 9, 2025: Go Out into the Highways and Byways: Sharing our Universalist Faith
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
Service Leader: Walter Gendell
Before the internet, before radio, before television, our religious ancestors spread their faith and their vision in many ways, including “riding the circuit” and sharing the good news of universal salvation in every pulpit they could get to. Let’s learn a little about these intrepid and passionate forbears.
Reading Lists
At times Rev Ian publishes a reading list of sources that he used in his sermons.
June 25, 2023 GA Assembly Worship Service
Ever Willing: Becoming the People Our World Needs
The pandemic has wrought change and created uncertainty for institutions, like our Unitarian Universalist congregations, and our wider world. Who and what are we becoming, individually and collectively? Our GA Sunday service explores these themes as we gather in community to celebrate the best of who we UUs are.
Link to the UUA website to view the recorded service.
July 2, 2023: We The People
Worship Leader: Rev. Ian W. Riddell
Worship Assistant: Joni Padduck
As we celebrate our nation’s birthday, we take a look at the state of our democracy and wonder together how to stay true to our values while resisting hatred, fear, and prejudice.
