Your generous donations on May 17 will help the Street Medicine Program continue to provide vital free health care services through nurse clinics at shelters, free food program locations, homeless encampments, and cooling/warming centers in the Coachella Valley.
It increases access to health care by serving the sheltered, unsheltered, and other vulnerable populations through nurse clinics and other outreach programs. The goal is to improve the well-being of these populations by providing preventive services, treating chronic disease, managing chronic disease medication, making referrals for follow-up care, offering foot soaks, and distributing personal items the clients need. With access to nurse clinics, the Nursing Street Medicine Program aims to decrease emergency room visits and acute care facility admissions.
The Street Medicine team of nursing faculty, students, and volunteers provides a valuable service at no cost to those who need assistance. The Street Medicine student clinics also increase the number of registered nurses in the valley who have experience engaging with vulnerable populations. As collaborative partners in the community, the Department of Nursing is creating and contributing to an educated healthcare workforce.
On Sunday, May 17, please give as generously as you are able to continue funding this vital program for our most vulnerable populations. If donating by check, make it out to UUCOD so our treasurer can divide the plate and make out one group check from our church. Thank you!
